Shady Rest Golf and Country Club
820 Jerusalem Rd, Scotch Plains, New Jersey 07076, USA
Shady Rest Golf and Country Club is a 9-hole, par-33 public golf course playing 2,247 yards from the longest tees. Formerly known as Scotch Hills Country Club, Shady Rest is considered to be the first Black country club in the country and reverted back to its original name in 2022 to pay homage to this history. The golf course is known for its rolling, tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured putting greens. Shady Rest is especially suited to beginners and those desiring a quick round of golf in a park-like setting. A 3,500 square foot clubhouse offers a snack bar serving cold sandwiches, beverages and a small merchandise display area. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service and a national landmark, Shady Rest opened in 1920 and is one of the oldest public golf courses in New Jersey.
