KemperSports Selected to Manage Mosholu Golf Course
Unique urban 9-hole course to remain a hub for New York golfers
BRONX, N.Y., October 30, 2024 – First Tee – Metropolitan New York has selected KemperSports, a leading golf, sports, entertainment and hospitality company, to manage Mosholu Golf Course in the Bronx, N.Y. Located just outside of Manhattan, Mosholu Golf Course has a rich history of offering outstanding public golf to New Yorkers since opening in 1914.
“We are excited to partner with KemperSports to help usher Mosholu Golf Course into the future and be recognized as one of the finest youth development and community focused golf facilities in the country,” said Matt Rawitzer, Executive Director of The First Tee – Metropolitan New York. “KemperSports has been a leader in the golf industry for over 40 years and we share in their commitment to the future of the game through innovative and engaging player development programming, as well as their focus on bringing golf to new communities.”
A public amenity, Mosholu Golf Course is a concession of NYC Parks – one of 14 public golf courses in New York City. The license agreement with The First Tee – Metropolitan New York is pending award by NYC Parks and registration by the Comptroller of the City of New York prior to taking effect.
Recognized as one of the first public golf courses in the U.S. when it was built in 1914 near Van Cortlandt Park by architect John Van Kleek, Mosholu Golf Course underwent a full golf course renovation in the early 2000s by golf course architects Stephen Kay and Doug Smith. In addition to the nine-hole, par-32 golf course, the facility includes a 10,000-square-foot putting and chipping green with exciting future plans for a 50-bay driving range and large clubhouse, which would make Mosholu one of the premier player development destinations in the country.
“Mosholu Golf Course is widely recognized as one of the best urban golf experiences in the country,” said KemperSports CEO Steve Skinner. “We look forward to working with First Tee – Metropolitan New York to deliver a great experience and grow the game.”
Founded in 2001, First Tee – Metropolitan New York has been headquartered at Mosholu Golf Course since 2004 in partnership with NYC Parks. This partnership paired with Mosholu’s unique location has provided a special opportunity to positively impact the lives of thousands of young people across the New York Metropolitan area through the game of golf over the last 23 years.
In recent years, Mosholu Golf Course has also received national recognition from GolfPass, whose annual Golfers’ Choice lists seek to determine the best golf courses played by recreational golfers across the country. In 2023, Mosholu ranked No. 12 on the Golfers’ Choice list of the nation’s top 25 short courses after coming in at No. 23 on its list of the best public golf courses in New York in 2021.
In addition to Mosholu Golf Course, KemperSports manages 10 other properties in the bustling New York/New Jersey golf market.
